CLEVELAND, Ohio - Bowling Green freshman Geoff Hiscox has been named the Mid-American Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week, the league office has announced. Hiscox, a native of London, Ontario, earns the honor for the first time in his Falcon career.
Hiscox went 2-1 in singles action and a perfect 3-0 in doubles play last week. At the third singles flight, he recorded a win in straight sets over Alexis Pourchet of nationally-ranked Rice University. He suffered a loss at third singles to Louisville's Alex Sivertson, but made his collegiate debut at the top singles flight a memorable one, defeating Dayton's Jeff Keckley by scores of 6-2 and 6-3.
He teamed with three different Falcons to win three doubles matches at the second flight last week. On the year, Hiscox has a 17-9 singles record. He is 17-8 in doubles, having teamed with five different players this season.
The Falcons are 10-6 overall after losing to a pair of nationally-ranked teams last week (Louisville and Rice) before sweeping Dayton, 7-0. BGSU hosts Xavier in Friday (April 7) action. The match, weather permitting, is scheduled to begin at 3:00 p.m. at Keefe Courts on the BGSU campus.
After the Xavier match, the Falcons return to MAC play. BG, 1-0 in league action, plays at Northern Illinois Sunday (April 9).
