Falcon Icers Fall To Miami 4-2

Oxford, Ohio - The Falcons of Bowling Green suffered a tough loss, falling 4-2 to the Miami RedHawks Friday night in Oxford. In snapping their own streak of two consecutive losses, Miami halted BG's two-game win streak.
Miami jumped out to a 1-0 lead midway through the first. With Mark Wires in the penalty box for charging, RedHawk forward Evan Cheverie threw a pass in front of the Falcon net. Pat Leahy redirected Cheverie's shot past goalie Tyler Masters on the glove side for the score. Bart Stevens also garnered an assist on Leahy's fifth of the year at 11:32. The power-play marker by Miami ended Bowling Green's consecutive penalty kills at 23.
Five minutes later, Ernie Hartlieb extended the RedHawk lead to two with his seventh goal of the season. Jason Deskins and Gregor Krajnc were awarded assists on the play.
Hartlieb struck again early in the second period to give Miami a three-goal advantage. As Masters tried to corral a loose puck in front of the net, Hartlieb was able to knock it past the BG netminder. Krajnc and Deskins earned their second points of the night on Hartlieb's eighth of the campaign.
Bowling Green answered two minutes later when Greg Day deflected a Louis Mass shot past Miami goal keeper David Burleigh. Day's even-strength marker was his team-leading 17th of the season.
Miami's Gregor Krajnc took advantage of a scramble in front of the net to slide a backhand past Masters at 11:12. Masters stopped the initial shot by MU defenseman Brian Sipotz, but was unable to hold the rebound away from Krajnc. Deskins earned his third point of the contest with an assist on the play.
Sophomore Tyler Knight rounded out the scoring 5:48 into the third. Defenseman Brian Escobedo's shot pulled goaltender Burleigh out of position and Knight was able to shoot the rebound into an empty net.
Tyler Masters stopped 30 shots for the Falcons, while David Burleigh made 32 saves for Miami. The Falcons were unable to convert on a power-play opportunity for the first time in 10 games.
Bowling Green's record stands at 8-13-4 (3-10-4 CCHA), while Miami holds a 12-11-2 mark (9-7-1 CCHA). The Falcons and the RedHawks sqaure off again Saturday night at Miami's Goggin Arena, faceoff 7:35.
