CHICAGO, Ill. - Host DePaul University won four singles flights and all three doubles matches en route to a 5-2 victory over the Bowling Green State University women's tennis team. The Sunday (Feb. 18) match was held at the Lakeshore Athletic Club.
BGSU's lone winners came at the top-two singles flights. At the top flight, senior Meghan Rhodes earned a win over DU's Laura Taylor. Trailing Rhodes in the first set, Taylor was forced to retire due to an injury.
The Falcons' other win also came from a senior, Abby Bratton. Bratton won a three-set match from Szilvia Kelemen.
BGSU's other two seniors, Erika Wasilewski and Tracy Howitt, extended their singles matches to three sets before falling at the #3 and #6 flights, respectively.
The Falcons' other singles competitors were freshmen Lisa Maloney at the fourth flight and Gaby Coello at the fifth level.
In doubles, the top team of Howitt and Bratton suffered a narrow 8-6 loss. BGSU's other doubles duos were Wasilewski/Maloney at the second flight and Coello/Rhodes at the third level.
BGSU, now 1-6 in dual-match play on the year, next heads to Cheyenne, Wyo., to take on host Wyoming in a Thursday (Feb. 22) match. BGSU then will play a pair of matches in Colorado Springs, Colo., taking on Air Force Friday (Feb. 23) and Sam Houston State the following day.
