
Hockey Defeats Western Michigan 4-2

Bowling Green, Ohio - The Bowling Green hockey team kept their playoff hopes alive by defeating the 13th ranked Western Michigan Broncos Friday night by a 4-2 margin. With the win, BG moves ahead of Lake Superior State in the CCHA playoff race with 17 points.
WMU's Mike Bishai opened the scoring early to put the Broncos up 1-0. Davis Cousineau and Jeff Campbell set up Bishai's 16th of the season.
The Falcons answered four minutes later, with junior Scott Hewson knocking in his seventh of the year. Hewson's first even-strength goal this season was assisted by linemates Greg Day and Ryan Murphy.
Doug Schueller's breakaway goal at 10:42 of the first put BG ahead 2-1. Schueller's second tally of the campaign was unassisted.
The BGSU power play would score its first of two goals of the night at 18:01 of the middle frame. Hewson and Day garnered their second points of the night in setting up Marc Barlow's fourth goal this season.
BG's second score on the man-advantage came off the stick of Ryan Murphy at 6:44 of the third. Barlow and Hewson were awarded assists on Murphy's team leading 20th of the year.
Western Michigan kept pressure on the Falcons and scored midway through the third period to pull within two. Steve Rymsha's man-advantage marker at 13:53 was his 21st of the season. Cousineau and Bishai garnered assists.
WMU netminder Jeff Reynaert stopped 21 shots on the night, while Tyler Masters made 31 saves to earn the victory for BG. Western Michigan went one for seven on the power play, as Bowling Green was successful two times in six chances.
The Falcons face Western Michigan again Saturday night at the BGSU Ice Arena. Faceoff is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
