Gymnastics Finishes Third at Kentucky

Lexington, Kentucky - The Bowling Green women's gymnastics squad finished third in a four-team field Friday at the University of Kentucky. Junior Marny Oestreng (Trogstad, Norway) led the Falcons tying for second on the bars with a score of 9.825 and placing second in the all-around with a 39.200. The host Wildcats took first in the team competition with a score of 195.825. Mid-American Conference rival Central Michigan was close behind at 195.275, with the Falcons in third at 194.450. The University of Pittsburgh rounded out the field with a total score of 190.550.
Along with her pair of seconds, Oestreng also took team high honors on the vault tying for fourth at 9.825. Freshman Pia Sjovall (Skarer, Norway) was right behind Oestreng, in sixth place at 9.800. On the beam, Oestreng and senior Heather Dankmyer (Pittsburgh, PA) tied for best on the squad in tenth place at 9.750. Senior Cristin McClellan (Minerva, OH) took top score for the Falcons on the floor exercise, tying for seventh at 9.825.
The Falcons return to action next Saturday, March 17 when they travel to Ohio State. That event will begin at 7:00 p.m.
