INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The Bowling Green State University women's tennis team got wins at five singles flights and two doubles matches en route to a 6-1 victory over Butler University Friday (March 9) in Indianapolis.
With the win, the Falcons are now 3-8 in dual-match play this season, and have won the last two contests.
A trio of seniors won their matches in straight sets, while two freshmen captured three-set contests in singles action. Seniors Abby Bratton and Erika Wasilewski were victorious at the second and third flights, respectively, while classmate Tracy Howitt won at the #5 level.
Frosh Lisa Maloney and Gaby Coello split their first two sets before winning. Maloney captured the last two sets at the fourth flight, while Coello also dropped her first set, but rallied to win the second set and a tiebreaker, at flight #6.
In doubles, the Falcons captured the point with wins at the first and third flights. The Bratton/Wasilewski combo was successful at the top level, while the third-flight team of Maloney and freshman Jessica Johnson won as well.
BGSU is next in action on March 23, taking on Akron at Keefe Courts. That match marks the Mid-American Conference opener as well as the beginning of a six-match homestand.
