ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. - The Bowling Green State University men's tennis team successfully opened Mid-American Conference play, posting a 7-0 victory over the University at Buffalo Saturday (March 24). The neutral-site match was held at St. Bonaventure, N.Y.

The win improves the Falcons, ranked 75th in the country in the latest national rankings, to 11-7 overall. BGSU is now 1-0 in MAC play. UB lost for the first time in dual play this season, falling to 10-1 and 0-1, respectively.

BGSU captured wins at all six singles flights and two of the three doubles flights. Junior Vitek Wild picked up his team-leading 19th singles win of the season with a straight-sets victory over UB's Budi Susanto at the top singles flight. He now has a 19-10 record on the year, and ranks fourth in school history with 72 career singles wins.

Freshman Nick Moxley won at the second flight, in the only match of the day. Moxley outlasted Fery Kasiman, winning a 12-10 tiebreaker in the third set.

BGSU's other singles winners, in order from the third to the sixth flight, were junior Mike Kossoff, senior Brandon Gabel and sophomores Micael Lopez-Acevedo and Peter Gardonyi.

In doubles action, Wild and Gardonyi lost a 9-8 decision to Susanto and Kasiman at the top flight, but BG's other two teams were victorious. Gabel teamed with sophomore Geoff Hiscox for a win at the second level, and the third-flight team of Micael Lopez-Acevedo and Moxley also garnered a win.

The Falcons were scheduled to face host St. Bonaventure University in a match later Saturday.
