OXFORD, Ohio - Host Miami University won at five of the six singles flights en route to a 6-1 victory over the Bowling Green State University women's tennis team in Mid-American Conference action Friday (April 20).
The win improved the host RedHawks' records to 15-6 overall and 6-2 in MAC action. The Falcons drop to 8-12 and 4-4, respectively.
BGSU's lone point came courtesy of senior Erika Wasilewski. The BG co-captain rallied after losing the first set to defeat MU's Janet Baker at the third singles flight. With the victory, Wasilewski increased her team-best singles record to 18-14 on the season. She is 6-2 in singles in conference play.
Although Miami captured the doubles point, the Falcons got a win at the third flight. That victory was earned by the team of seniors Meghan Rhodes and Tracy Howitt.
With their Friday wins, the three aforementioned seniors continued their climb up the BGSU career lists. Rhodes and Wasilewski each have 149 combined career wins, tied for second on the school list. Deidee Bissinger (1997-2000) holds the school record with 153.
Abby Bratton is fourth on that list, with 148 total wins in her career, while Howitt now has 127 to rank eighth.
Wasilewski's win was the 75th singles victory of her career, tying her for fifth on that school chart. That school record is 79. (Bratton and Rhodes are tied for third with 76.)
Rhodes now has 73 doubles wins as a Falcon, moving into sole possession of fourth place.
The Falcons will conclude regular-season play with a Saturday (April 21) match at Marshall University.
