Bowling Green, Ohio - Sophomore designated hitter Kelly Hunt singled home junior catcher Tim Newell with one out in the bottom of the seventh to give host BGSU (26-10, 13-4 MAC) a 13-12 victory over Toledo (19-20, 5-8 MAC) in the first game of a MAC doubleheader Saturday afternoon.
After the Rockets scored six times in the top of the inning, Newell laced a one-out triple to right-center. UT intentionally walked senior center fielder Aric Christman and junior left fielder Len Elias to load the bases. Hunt then singled to right recording his third hit of the game and fifth RBI. Hunt hit a solo home run in the third and a three-run blast in the sixth. The Falcons also received home runs from Christman, senior right fielder Lee Morrison, senior third baseman Scott Dukate and sophomore second baseman Corey Loomis.
Trailing 12-6 entering the seventh, the Rockets scored six times on five hits with the big blow coming on a two-out three-run double from junior centerfielder Tony Miller. One batter later, freshman designated hitter Mitch Maier singled home Miller to tie the game.
Senior Brian Thacker pitched 1/3 of an inning to earn his first win of the season for the Falcons.
