Akron, Ohio - Akron's Ty Moorhead hit a go-ahead two-run single with two outs in the eighth inning to lead the Zips to a 9-7 victory over BGSU in the regular season finale for both teams. BGSU enters the Mid-American Conference Tournament on Wednesday as the #2 seed with a 36-16 record, including a 18-9 record against league foes. The Falcons will play #5 seeded Central Michigan University at 1:30 p.m. (EDT) in Muncie, Indiana.
The Falcons trailed 6-2 entering the top of the eighth inning and tied the score on a grand slam home run by senior Aric Christman. The blast marked his school-record 81st hit of the season. Junior Len Elias followed with a solo shot of his own to give BGSU a brief 7-6 lead entering the final inning and a half.
Senior Lee Morrison established two school records when he hit a solo home run in the third inning. That long distance call gave him 16 home runs and 58 RBI, both new BGSU single season standards.
