BGSU Finishes Tied for Ninth at Xavier

Cincinnati, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University men's golf team finished in a four-way tie for ninth place out of 18 teams on Tuesday at the Xavier Provident Invitational at Grizzly Course in Mason, Ohio. The Falcons finished with a 54-hole score of 881, tied with Akron, Ohio, and Georgetown. It was the best finish for BGSU ever in the tournament.
Individually, redshirt-sophomore Craig Pickerel had his best collegiate showing, finishing third with a score of 208 (72-68-68). He was seven strokes off the winner (Jesse Hutchins -Wright State) and just three strokes behind the runner-up (Miles Maillet-Xavier). The 208 breaks the previous school record of 210 for 54 holes set by BGSU coach Garry Winger in 1994. Pickerel also shot a career-low round of 68 in each of the final two rounds of the tournament to finish five-under. His previous best finish was fifth (215) at the BGSU John Piper Intercollegiate.
Sophomore Austin Chase was the next highest finisher for BGSU, placing 15th with a score of 217 (73-72-72). The 54-hole score tied his career-best, which he accomplished twice last season.
Freshman Chris Leake was T-55th (224), senior Andy Miller was T-82nd (232) and freshman Bud Ziglar was T-98th (242).
The tournament concludes the fall season for the Falcons. Coach Garry Winger and his team returns to action this spring when they travel to the Big Red Classic (March 8-9) in Ocala, Fla.
