Women Place 18th, Men 28th At Great Lakes Regional

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Bowling Green State University cross country teams saw the 2002 season come to an end Saturday (Nov. 16), as the Falcons competed in the NCAA Great Lakes Region Championships. The BGSU women posted an 18th-place finish, while the Falcon men were 28th as a team in the races, hosted by Purdue University at the Varsity Cross Country Course.
For the BGSU women, junior Amber Culp led the team for the sixth consecutive race, placing 49th of 217 total runners in the 6K event. Culp had a time of 22:29.5.
Melissa Krueger was the next Falcon to cross the finish line, placing 101st in a time of 23:28.4. Other BG competitors included Nicole Suitor (128th, 24:06.3), Sarah Lohrbach (138th, 24:19.1), Cyndi Bostdorff (156th, 24:35.3) and Elise Gould (168th, 24:53.7).
The Falcon women had a team score of 566 in the 31-team race.
On the men's side, the Falcons had a team score of 852. The five-man Falcon contingent was led by Mario Rothmund, who was 68th overall. Rothmund had a time of 32:28.8 in the 210-man, 10K race.
Troy Stiles was the second BG runner to cross the line, placing 182nd in a time of 35:39.5. The other competitors for the Brown and Orange included Kris Lachowski (186th, 35:51.5), Josh Stucky (207th, 37:38.7) and Steve Blasko (209th, 39:06.8).
Wisconsin, ranked fourth in the nation, won the men's race, followed by #7 Eastern Michigan and #9 Central Michigan. EMU's Boaz Cheboiywo, the defending NCAA individual champion, was the individual winner.
The Notre Dame women, ranked fifth in the nation, won the team crown, while #12 Michigan finished second and #19 Michigan State third. Toledo's Briana Shook captured the individual title.
The NCAA Great Lakes Region Championships marks the final race of the fall for the Brown and Orange.
