Falcons Win At Pittsburgh To Set School Record For Wins

PITTSBURGH, Pa. - The Bowling Green State University gymnastics team capped one of the most successful regular seasons in school history with a 194.925-194.275 win at Pittsburgh Saturday (March 16). The meet was held at UP's Trees Hall.
With the win, the Falcons improve to 17-1 on the year, setting a new school record for victories in a season. The Panthers dropped to 8-11 on the year.
Senior Marny Oestreng led the Falcons with a first-place finish in the all-around. The Trogsted, Norway, native also finished first in the vault (9.875) and the floor exercise (9.900) and placed third in the uneven bars (9.775).
Mindy Untch won the bars competition with a score of 9.875, followed by Kari Elste (9.800) and Oestreng. Pia Sjovall had a score of 9.800 on the vault to place second behind Oestreng.
Untch was the Falcons' top finisher on the balance beam, placing second with a score of 9.875. Melissa Popovich was third in the floor exercise with a score of 9.875.
The Falcons, who finished regular-season action with a perfect 6-0 Mid-American Conference record, now prepare for the 2002 MAC Championships. The league meet will be held Saturday (March 23) at 2:00 p.m. in Muncie, Ind.
