BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University women's tennis closed the home portion of the 2001-02 schedule with a narrow 4-3 loss to Miami University Saturday afternoon (April 13). The Mid-American Conference dual match was held at Keefe Courts.
The RedHawks improve to 12-8 and 5-2 in MAC action, while the Falcons drop to 2-17 and 1-6, respectively.
MU won the doubles point by taking two of the three matches, but BGSU captured three of the first five singles matches. The final match to finish was at the sixth flight, where Miami's Cassie Uhl won a third-set tiebreaker by a 7-4 score over freshman Laura Kokinda.
BGSU's Alyson Gabel, a transfer from Miami, posted a pair of wins over her old school. Gabel downed Erica Echko at the fourth singles flight, and teamed with sophomore Gaby Coello for a victory at the second doubles flight.
The Falcons also got singles wins from Coello and fellow sophomore Lisa Maloney. Coello topped Nancy Wiegand in three sets at the fifth flight, and Maloney won a straight-sets decision over Megan Zimpfer at flight number-two.
The match marked the final home contest for BGSU's lone senior, Devon Bissinger. Bissinger competed at the top flight in both singles and doubles.
BGSU will close the regular-season schedule next weekend, with matches at Buffalo (April 19) and Akron (April 20). The MAC Championships are the following week (April 25-28) in Muncie, Ind.
