Falcons Win At Akron, 6-1

AKRON, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University women's tennis team completed a 2-0 weekend road trip with a 6-1 win at Akron Saturday (April 20). The match marked the final regular-season contest for both teams.
With the victory, the Falcons improve to 4-17 overall and end Mid-American Conference play with a 3-6 league ledger. Akron drops to 5-13 and 1-8, respectively.
BGSU won the doubles point with a sweep of the three matches. At the top flight, the team of senior Devon Bissinger and freshman Susie Schoenberger won by an 8-4 count.
Junior Alyson Gabel and sophomore Gaby Coello posted an 8-0 win at the middle flight, while sophomores Jessica Johnson and Lisa Maloney were 8-2 winners at the third level. Both teams went 3-3 in MAC play this season.
In singles action, Akron's only win came at the top flight. Maloney lost a total of only two games in her win at the second flight, while Gabel matched that feat at the fourth level.
Coello dropped only three games in her fifth-flight win, while Schoenberger lost a total of only four games at the third flight. Kokinda won in three sets at the sixth flight.
Coello, Gabel and Kokinda all finish MAC play with winning singles records, as all three went 5-4 against league foes during the regular season.
BGSU will now head to Muncie, Ind., for the MAC Championships, which begin Thursday and run through Sunday (April 25-28).
