Falcon Swimmers Win Two Duals on Saturday

Bowling Green, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University swimming and diving team captured two dual-meet victories over visiting Saint Louis (93.00 - 20.00) and Louisville (57.00 - 56.00) on Saturday afternoon at Cooper Pool. The Falcons, though, lost to #18-ranked Notre Dame 70.00 - 43.00.
The Falcons had a swimmer, diver or relay team finish in the top-three of nine different events, including sophomore Erin Dilkes who captured the 100 breaststroke in a time of 1:07.32. She beat second-place finisher Stephanie Wyatt of Louisville by just under one second (1:08.30). Dilkes' time established a new personal best in the 100 breaststroke, beating her old time of 1:07.60.
"We really raced well," said BGSU coach Keri Buff. "I think we were a little low in the water because we were tired. But, they are getting confident in themselves and in the training to come to a meet and be competitive. We've got good endurance right now because of our training."
Senior Kelley O'Hara shattered her previous season-best time in the 500 free (5:20.09) with a time of 5:06.00 on Saturday, finishing second behind winner Lauren Bullock of Louisville (5:04.87). O'Hara also finished as the runner-up in the 200 free with a time of 1:55.70.
Also turning in second-place finishes for the Falcons were senior Alissa Davies (50 free, 25.30) and freshman Dana Schultz (100 butterfly, 59.12). Third-place finishes for the Falcons included freshman Kara Ohngren (1000 free, 10:39.53), senior Ryan Donley (1-meter diving, 223.75), and freshman Stephanie Buckner (100 free, 54.66).
The Falcon 400 free relay team finished second behind Notre Dame with a time of 3:39.56. O'Hara, Schultz, Buckner and Amy Smith made up the team. BGSU's top 400 IM relay team (Tina Sestan, Sarah Agnew, Schultz and Buckner) placed fourth with a time of 4:03.05.
"It was good to be involved in a close dual with Louisville and come out on top," Buff said about the one-point win over the Conference-USA team. "We had divers that were third and fourth on the 1-meter. Josh has brought a new philosophy to the team that will show at the MAC Championships."
Bowling Green improved to 5-7 overall in dual meets this season. BGSU travels to Oxford, Ohio, next Saturday (Feb. 1) for Mid-American Conference dual meets with host Miami and visiting Ohio. The meet is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
