Falcons Win Opener Over Urbana, 103-78

Sophomore guard Ron Lewis scored a career-high 34 points to lead Bowling Green to a 103-78 season opening win over Urbana at Anderson Arena. Lewis, who made 14 straight free throws after missing his first charity attempt, continued where he left off at the end of last season. During the final four games of the 2002-03 season, Lewis averaged 23.5 points.
BGSU shot 57.4 percent from the floor and were also paced by junior John Reimold who had 22 points and nine rebounds. He also added six assists. Junior Josh Almanson made all seven field goal attempts and finished with 18 points. Senior Jabari Mattox tied his career-best with 10 assists.
As a team, the Falcons had 29 assists to just 11 turnovers.
Freshman Matt Lefeld had eight points off the bench (making all four field goal attempts) as he and fellow frosh Chris Hobson (7 points) and Austin Montgomery (6 points) combined to give the Falcons 21 points in their first collegiate action.
Senior Jarrod Brumbaugh led Urbana, 1-4, with 18 points, while Antonio Davis had 17.
