BGSU Icers 3-2 Overtime Winners at Lake Superior

Sault Ste. Marie, Mich. - Bowling Green freshman Mike Falk scored the game-winner with just nine seconds remaining in overtime to give the Falcons a 3-2 victory over Lake Superior State University on Saturday night in Sault Ste. Marie, Mich.
Falk's shot from between the circles past LSSU goalie Matt Violin gave BGSU it's fifth victory in Central Collegiate Hockey Association action (13 total points) and solidified 11th place for the CCHA Tournament, which begins March 14. D'Arcy McConvey and Steve Brudzewski assisted on the game-winner.
"The game was tightly contested all the way through," said BGSU coach Scott Paluch. "I thought we played our best hockey after they tied it."
LSSU tied the game, 2-2, when Ryan Reid scored his first goal of the season at 16:45 of the third period. The Lakers outshot the Falcons 17-7 in the third period, setting up the dramatic overtime period.
McConvey gave the visitors a 1-0 lead at 17:57 of the first period with his first goal since Dec. 27 vs. Boston College (16 games). Tyler Knight and Chris Pedota assisted on the goal.
LSSU tied the score, 1-1, when Alex Dunn scored at 6:07 of the second period. Knight regained the lead for the Falcons later in the second period at 11:57 with a short-handed goal, which was assisted by McConvey. BGSU held a slim 18-17 shot advantage in the first two periods, but held a 4-1
Sophomore Jordan Sigalet had 33 saves in net for BGSU for his sixth win of the season. Violin ended with 26 saves for the Lakers. LSSU held a 35-29 shot advantage for the game.
BGSU was 0-for-1 on the power play while LSSU was 0-for-4.
The Falcons host its final two games of the regular season next week (March 7-8) when they entertain CCHA first-place Ferris State. Both faceoffs are scheduled for 7:05 p.m. at the BGSU Ice Arena.
