Bowling Green, Ohio - Bowling Green State University Athletic Director Paul Krebs has announced the University will not renew the contract of men's soccer coach Mel Mahler.
"While we appreciate the effort Mel has given to our men's soccer program and respect the recognition that he has brought to the University, we feel a change in leadership for this program is necessary at this time," said Krebs.
Mahler guided the Falcons for 10 years and compiled a 111-76-13 record (.588 pct.). He was an assistant at BGSU for seven years prior to becoming the full-time head coach in March of 1995. He led the Falcons to three Mid-American Conference regular season titles, three MAC Tournament titles, and three NCAA Tournament appearances (1995, 1996, 1997). He was named MAC Coach of the Year in 1996 and 2002.
