Falcons Prepare for NCAA Great Lakes Regional

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University cross country teams will head to Ypsilanti, Mich., for the NCAA Great Lakes Regional Championship Saturday (Nov. 13). The races, hosted by Eastern Michigan University, will be held at Eagle Crest Golf Course, with the top teams and individuals qualifying for the NCAA Championships.
Head coach Cami Wells and the Falcons have been idle from intercollegiate competition for nearly two weeks, since the Mid-American Conference Championships in Toledo on Oct. 30. The Falcon women placed seventh at the league meet, while the BG men finished 10th.
Wells will take eight members of the women's squad, along with three men's runners, to Ypsilanti this weekend. Seniors Elise Gould, Melissa Krueger and Niki Suitor will be joined by sophomores Andrea Pollack and Kim Settle and freshmen Stephanie Hillman and Jamie Roflow on the women's list of competitors. Christina Gingras will be the alternate for the race.
On the men's side, senior Steve Vairetta, junior Bryan Jackson and sophomore Rogers Kipchumba will make the trip to Michigan.

Saturday's Schedule:
10:40 a.m. -- Women Called to Start
10:50 a.m. -- National Anthem
11:00 a.m. -- Women's 6,000 Meter Race
11:55 a.m. -- Men Called to Start
12:15 p.m. -- Men's 10,000 Meter Race

The top two teams and the top four individuals not on one of those teams (providing they finish in the top 25) will automatically qualify for the NCAA Division I Championships, which will be held on Monday, Nov. 22 in Terre Haute, Ind. On Sunday (Nov. 14), the NCAA Division I Track and Field Committee will select 13 at-large teams and two at-large individuals from the NCAA's nine regions. Thirty-one teams and 38 individuals will qualify for the NCAA Division I Championships.
