Falcons Fall At Kent State

KENT, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University gymnastics squad, with a score of 194.975, fell to both No. 19 Kent State (196.350) and George Washington (195.400) Friday night inside the M.A.C. Center. BGSU's Melissa Popovich and Kristin DiPietro placed first and fifth in the all-around, respectively.
With the loss, the Falcons fell to 4-6 overall and 2-2 in Mid-American Conference action, while the Flashes improve to 10-1 overall and 4-0 in conference. George Washington now sits at 7-6 overall.
Popovich led all performers on the vault with a 9.900. Pia Sjovall placed sixth with a 9.800, with DiPietro and Breanne Metzger finishing ninth with 9.750's.
On the uneven bars Popovich placed third with a 9.800, while junior Kari Elste tallied a 9.725 to finish eighth.
The Falcons recorded three scores of at least 9.850 on the beam, starting with a 9.925 by Popovich, placing second, DiPietro placed eighth with a 9.875, and Metzger finished tenth with a 9.850.
The floor exercise was highlighted by Kent State's Jessie James, who recorded a 10.00 to lead all gymnasts. Popovich was the top BGSU performer with a 9.875.
In the all-around, Popovich and DiPietro recorded career-highs. Popovich recorded a 39.500, while DiPietro compiled 38.975
BGSU returns to action, when they host Northern Illinois on Sunday, February 29, inside the Eppler Complex. The meet is set to begin at 2:00 p.m.
