Mt. Pleasant, Mich. - After Bowling Green took a 1-0 lead in the top of the fourth inning, host Central Michigan rattled off 12 unanswered runs and went on to post a 12-2 victory over visiting BGSU on Friday afternoon in Mt. Pleasant, Mich.
Sophomore Nolan Reimold led off the fourth inning with a single to right field and one out later was moved to second on an infield single by Josh Stewart. A double steal moved both runners into scoring position and with two outs, Jimmy Lipari's hit to the shortstop was mishandled, allowing Reimold to score for a 1-0 Falcon lead.
In the bottom half of the fourth inning, the Chippewas plated two runs off of BGSU starter Tyler Saneholtz for a 2-1 lead. CMU broke the game open in the fifth inning with five runs, three coming off of Saneholtz and two off of reliever Neil Schmitz for a 7-2 lead.
CMU wasn't done as it plated five runs in the bottom of the eighth inning for a 12-1 lead. BGSU's Mike Barnard scored off of a single by pinch-hitter Josh Dietz in the top of the ninth inning, but that would be all the Falcons to score.
Saneholtz (3-1) suffered his first loss of the season while T.J. Johnson (2-1) pitched a complete-game, five-hitter against the Falcons. The lefty walked three and struck out eight.
BGSU falls to 11-5 overall and 2-2 in the Mid-American Conference. CMU improves to 11-12 overall and 1-0 in the MAC. The two teams will play the second game in a three-game series tomorrow, Saturday, at 1 p.m. at Theunissen Field.
