Bowling Green, Ohio - Dayton scored five runs in the seventh inning to break open a 1-1 game and went on to defeat Bowling Green on Tuesday afternoon, 6-2, at Warren Steller Field. The Flyers pounded out 15 hits, including seven in the crucial seventh inning.
UD got on the board first in the fourth inning with an RBI-single from Nick Ferralli for a 1-0 lead. BGSU matched that with a run in the bottom of the sixth inning, thanks to an RBI-double from Jimmy Lipari which scored Andy Hudak from second base. Hudak had reached thanks to a double into shallow right-centerfield.
The Flyers then took the lead for good with five runs in the seventh inning. All five were surrendered by freshman Dan Horvath (0-1) who picked up his first decision of the season.
BGSU cut into the deficit with a run in the bottom of the seventh when David Barkholz ripped a triple into right-centerfield and then scored when the relay man couldn't handle the ball. The Falcons could get no closer, however.
Both teams stranded eight base runners and Lipari was the only Falcon with multiple hits (2-for-4) with an RBI.
Five Falcon pitchers did not allow a walk and struck out eight. UD pitchers struck out 10 while walking two.
BGSU drops to 19-10 overall while Dayton improves to 17-19. The Falcons host IPFW in a non-conference game on Wednesday, April 21, at Warren Steller Field. Game time is set for 3 p.m.
