On a cool and windy day in Bowling Green, the men's and women's cross country teams hosted the Second Annual Falcon Invitational. On a day where anything could happen, everything did happen.
On the women's side, it was Jamie Roflow, who finished third in the women's race, led the Falcons to a second place team finish. Her time of 17:31 equaled her personal and season best for the 5,000m.
Stephanie Hillman, too ran a solid race. The goal for the Falcons all season is to close the gap between Roflow and the rest of the pack and today was the day as S. Hillman was able to finish right behind Roflow in fourth place with a time of 17:50, which broke her previous personal-best time of 18:01.
The Falcons didn't see another runner across the line until Kara Butler, a freshman, stepped up for the Falcons and finished 15th. Her time of 18:34 broke her previous personal-record of 19:08 by an amazing 34 seconds.
Right behind Butler in 17th place was the junior Kim Settle who ran the 5,000m course in 18:43.
Other Falcons across the finish line for the women's team were Colleen Moran (22nd, 19:02 PR), Bridget Dalic (23rd, 19:03), Andrea Pollack (24th, 19:04), Caroline Kipchaba (26th, 19:11), Kyle Korsnack (37th, 20:07 PR), Lyndi Springer (44th, 20:35 PR), Leslie Carden (46th, 20:51), Katy Senn (47th, 20:53), Angie Raizis (49th, 20:59 PR), Emily Jackson (51st, 21:10), Megan McAuley (52nd, 21:11), and Caroline Hillman (53rd, 21:17).
On the men's side, it was once again Rogers Kipchumba who led the Falcons. He crossed the line with a time of 26:01 for a third place finish.
"Behind Kichumba was sophomore Edgar Ramirez. His time of 27:17 was good enough for a 15th place finish. Ramirez has continued to be a top five runner for the Falcons and slid easily into the second runner spot for the team.
Bryan Jackson was the next men's runner across the line for the Falcons. He finished the race in 23rd place with a time of 27:34.
Kris Lachowski was next for the Falcons. He finished in 30th place with a time of 28:01. This is only Lachowski second race since the Fall of 2003 and he has stepped into the top-five for the Falcons.
Other Falcons to cross the finish line were Curtis Farnsel (33rd, 28:08 PR), Aaron Smuda (35th, 28:15), Jeremy Hartley (39th, 28:23), Steve Vairetta (40th, 28:24), Kevin Kaighin (43rd, 28:38), Brett Finnan (50th, 29:50), Will Elmore (52nd, 29:58) and Jeff Wright (54th, 30:59).
The Falcons will not see competition for another two weeks as they gear up for the Mid-American Conference Championships to be held in DeKalb, Illinois, at Northern Illinois University on October 29th, 2005. The women's race is slated to begin at 11:00 a.m.,, while the men's race will begin at noon.
