BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Falcons picked up back-to-back wins this weekend after sweeping both Akron and Buffalo. On Saturday night, sophomore Stephanie Swiger swatted 11 kills with just one error against Akron, good for a .435 hitting percentage. Senior Ashlei Nofzinger also earned 11 kills to tie the team-high.
It was a special night for senior Emily Manser as she recorded the 1,000 dig in her Falcon career. With junior Chrissy Gothke also recording her 1,000 career dig earlier this season, the pair becomes only the second duo to accomplish the feat in the same season after Tammy Schiller and Lisa Mika surpassed 1,000 digs in 1991.
Also to note, Gothke recorded another triple double, her fifth of the season. She racked up 10 kills, 34 assists and 11 digs in the Falcon victory.
Just like the night before, Bowling Green took advantage of early-game leads. After taking a 8-2 early advantage in game one, the Falcons allowed the Zips to close the lead to a lone point at 13-12. However, Nofzinger blasted two kills and got the Falcons back on track. Five separate Falcons recorded three or more blocks in the 30-23 win.
Swiger led the charge in game two, hitting five kills on seven swings with no errors. Swiger added two blocks and led the team with 6.5 points in the 30-28 game two victory. The Falcons held a 29-26 lead before back-to-back Zip kills narrowed the score to 29-28. Another clutch kill by Nofzinger stopped the rally and sealed the deal.
Bowling Green played great defense in game three, compiling five team blocks. Swiger showed why she is one of the biggest defensive threats in the MAC with three blocks in the game, totaling eight for the match. Nofzinger's five kills led the Brown and Orange in the game three clincher (30-25).
The Falcons will pack their bags and head to Cleveland State for a non-conference matchup against the Vikings Tuesday night, October 25th. The match is scheduled to begin at 7 PM.
