Falcons Win at UIC, 4-3; Extend Winning Streak to Three

CHICAGO, Ill. - The Bowling Green State University tennis team improved to 6-1 in dual-match play this season, after a 4-3 road win over the University of Illinois at Chicago Saturday (Feb. 12). The non-league dual was held at the Evergreen Racquet & Fitness Club in Chicago.
The Flames won the doubles point with decisive victories at the top-two flights, but the Falcons bounced back to win four of the six singles contests and take the match. Senior Susie Schoenberger and junior Heidi Romer, after being blanked by an 8-0 score in doubles action, each won singles matches.
Four of the six singles matches involved a tiebreaker, with the Falcons and Flames splitting those four contests
BGSU's lone doubles win came via the third-flight team of junior Andrea Meister and freshman Andrea Volle, who took an 8-6 decision.
In singles play, Schoenberger rallied from a 4-1 deficit in the third set to force a tiebreaker against Iris Jaklin, then won that tiebreaker at the number-one flight.
Sophomore Ashley Jakupcin made quick work of UIC's Corey Steven at the second flight, while Volle fell behind, 3-0, in her opening set at the third flight, but rallied back to win in straight sets.
At the fifth flight, Romer was a straight-sets winner for the Brown and Orange. Freshman Jenna Nussbaum and senior Cameron Benjamin also competed in the BGSU singles lineup, with Nussbaum splitting her first two sets before falling, and Benjamin's match ending in a second-set tiebreaker.
The Falcons, winners of three consecutive matches, remain in the Windy City for a Sunday dual vs. DePaul.
