Muncie, Ind. - Ball State plated four runs in the first inning and never looked back, going on to complete a three-game sweep of Bowling Green in Muncie, Indiana, 8-2, on Easter Sunday. BGSU falls to 0-3 in the Mid-American Conference and 12-6 overall. BSU is now 12-9 overall and 3-0 in the MAC.
BSU lead-off hitter Mike Sullivan received a base-on-balls by Kyle Knoblauch to start the game and was brought home by Jason Bucholtz via a double for a 1-0 Cardinal lead. Bucholtz moved to third base on a groundout then scored on a single by Marc Franz. After Franz stole second base, he later scored on a single and Chris Prestle hit a solo home run for a 4-0 BSU lead after one inning.
The home team built its lead to 5-0 after two innings before BGSU's Nolan Reimold cut into the deficit with a two-run home run to left field, his ninth of the season and fourth of the week.
That was as close as the Falcons would get, though, as the Cardinals scored a run in the fourth frame and two more in the fifth inning for the 8-2 victory.
Knoblauch (0-1) suffered his first loss of the season, allowing eight runs (seven earned) on 11 hits, one walk and three strikeouts. BSU's Michael Hale (3-0) remained perfect on the year, lasting six innings with two runs allowed on six hits with one walk and one strikeout.
BSU held a 13-7 advantage in hits while BGSU committed three errors.
The Falcons return to Warren Steller Field on Tuesday, March 29, with a non-conference matchup against Defiance at 2 p.m. BGSU then travels to Cleveland State on Wednesday before hosting Central Michigan next weekend (April 1-3).
