KALAMAZOO, Mich. - Host Western Michigan University, ranked number 53 in the nation, remained unbeaten in Mid-American Conference play with a 7-0 victory over the Bowling Green State University tennis team Friday afternoon (April 14). The MAC dual match was held at Sorensen Courts.
With the win, the Broncos are now 15-5 overall and 6-0 in league play, and Western has won seven consecutive dual matches. The Falcons drop to 11-7 and 3-3, respectively.
The Broncos opened the match by taking all three doubles contests to claim the opening point of the afternoon.
In singles play, Western's sister duo of Reedhina and Priyanka Parekh posted the first two wins of the day. Reedhina Parekh picked up a win over junior Heidi Romer at the fourth flight, while Priyanka was victorious over senior Cameron Benjamin at the fifth level.
Carrie Jeanmaire clinched the match for the Broncos with a third-flight win over freshman Andrea Volle. Sophomore Erica Wolfe split her first two sets against Noriko Saruta at the sixth flight, but Saruta posted a 10-3 triumph in the third-set 'super tiebreaker.'
The matches at the top-two flights were the last to finish. Western's Rattiya Hiranrat rallied from a 6-5 deficit to claim a 7-6 win over senior Susie Schoenberger in the opening set, then picked up a second-set win to claim that match. At the second flight, sophomore Ashley Jakupcin and WMU's Malena Remynse split a pair of 6-4 sets, but Remynse was a 10-5 winner in the third-set tiebreaker.
BGSU looks to rally with a Saturday (April 16) match at Northern Illinois University. The Huskies posted a 5-2 win over Ball State University Friday, improving to 6-7 overall and 2-4 in MAC matches.
