Sault Ste Marie, Michigan - The Bowling Green State University hockey team dropped a 6-1 decision Friday night in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan Friday night inside the Taffy Abel Arena to Lake Superior. Freshman Brandon Svendsen recorded the Falcons lone goal on the night.
"We did some postive things, but anytime there was a breakdown or a bounce we would just give up way to good of a scoring chance," said head coach Scott Paluch. "I just felt we did not respond to the trouble parts of the game to eliminate their scoring chances."
Lake Superior (13-7-5, 9-7-3) got on the board early with goals on their first two shots of the contest, which were also the only two goals of the first period.
Two more goals in the second and one midway through the third gave the Lakers a 5-0 advantage.
BGSU (12-15-1, 8-12-1) finally got on the board after freshman Brandon Svendsen was all alone in front of the LSSU crease. Sophomore Jonathan Matsumoto passed the puck across the crease to Svendsen who had an empty net to shoot at for the Falcons only goal of the night. Shots on the night were 30-28 LSSU.
The Falcons were 0-for-7 with the man advantage, while Lake Superior went 1-for-2 on the night.
Senior Jon Horrell stopped 24-of-30 Laker shots, while LSSU goaltender turn-aside 27-of-28 Falcon shots.
These same two teams will do it again tomorrow night at 7:05 p.m.
