BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - After having to wait through an extra day of anticipation, the Bowling Green State University Soccer Falcons (3-12-1, 0-5-0) learned that they will play a rematch of Friday's game at Western Michigan University (6-13-2, 3-2-0) in Tuesday afternoon's first round match of the Mid-American Conference Tournament.
Because of weather delays and soggy field conditions, the determining match featuring Akron and the University at Buffalo was postponed until Saturday afternoon. Akron went on to shut-out the Bulls 2-0 and earned the second seed in the MAC Conference Tournament. Northern Illinois earned the first seed. Both teams will have a bye in the first round.
Due to the Zips' 2-0 shutout victory over the Bulls, UB and WMU finished the season in a tie for third place. WMU pulled ahead of UB as a result of head to head competition.
Bowling Green, the sixth seed, will face third seed Western Michigan on Tuesday at 3:00 p.m. in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Buffalo, the fourth seed, will also host fifth seed IPFW.
"We are familiar with the field and the team after Friday's match, so we will just have to turn around and head back to Kalamazoo. It is not often a team has the chance to replay a match and change the outcome," said head coach Fred Thompson.
The Falcons met the Broncos on Oct. 27 in Kalamazoo and dropped a 2-1 decision after taking the early 1-0 lead.
