EVANSTON, Ill. - Two Bowling Green State University tennis student-athletes continued to advance in singles play Saturday (Oct. 7), in second-day action at the Wildcat Invitational. The three-day, 11-team invite is being hosted by Northwestern University.
Sophomore Stefanie Menoff and freshman Katia Babina continued the success they began Friday at the fourth singles flight. Menoff defeated a pair of opponents from the Big Ten Conference to advance all the way to the championship match in that fourth flight.
Menoff topped Wisconsin's Erin Jobe in straight sets in the quarterfinals, then lost a total of only three games in a 6-3, 6-0 win over Michigan State's Marianne Eelens in semifinal-round action. Menott will face an opponent to be determined in Sunday's final.
Freshman Katia Babina is bidding to become that opponent. Babina topped Christina Oum of UIC in two sets in quarterfinal-round play, and will meet Indiana State's Maria Caujolle for the right to advance to the final.
In consolation-round play on Saturday, junior Andrea Volle picked up a win over Grace Gill-Morlis of UIC, while sophomore Libby Harrison won by identical 6-1 scores over Dori Losonczy of DePaul. Soph Kelsey Jakupcin and freshman Samantha Kintzel each picked up straight-sets wins in singles consolation play as well. Kintzel downed Western Michigan's Emily Dudzik by a pair of 6-3 scores, while Jakupcin was a 7-6, 6-3 winner over Iowa State's Chrissy Derouin.
The Wildcat Invitational will conclude on Sunday (Oct. 8).
