Bowling Green, Ohio. - Five Central Arkansas players scored in double figures and the Bears held off two Falcon comeback attempts to post a 72-58 win over BGSU Saturday afternoon in Anderson Arena.
"I thought that they beat us in all phases of the game, said BGSU Coach Dan Dakich. "They came with a purpose and I thought that they were just better. We got off to a little bit of a start and the next thing you know they got energy and played great. You know, they have had some really tough losses and we have had some good wins. I think their desire to compete had far out shown our desire to compete today and that is disappointing."
The Falcons scored easily on their first two trips down the floor, but UCA took control of the game and never trailed after Nate Bowie knocked in a pair of free throws to give the visitors a 15-14 lead with 11:23 left in the first half.
The Falcons could not get over the hump before halftime and Bowie twice stole the ball which led to two UCA fast break baskets to give the Bears a 31-23 lead with 3:54 to go in the half.
UCA led 36-27 at halftime and BGSU could not take advantage of solid defense early in the second half. BGSU then went on an 11-2 run which included two three-pointers by freshman Ryan Sims and one from sophomore Dusan Radivojevic to cut the Bear lead to 40-38 with 12:24 to go.
The Falcons would even have a chance to tie or take the lead on the next possession, but a three-pointer by senior Martin Samarco rimmed in and out.
UCA built a 50-40 lead with 7:39 remaining, but the Falcons threw together an 11-3 run and trailed 53-51 with 5:38 to go on another Sims three pointer.
However, UCA's Mitch Reuter had a layup and then a steal and a dunk and the Falcons could get no closer.
Samarco led BGSU with 19 points and Sims had 11.
BGSU will visit Wright State next Saturday at 5 p.m.
