PISCATAWAY, NJ - The Bowling Green State University gymnastics squad finished fourth out of five teams Saturday night. The winner and host of the meet was Rutgers University who scored 190.550, Towson University would take second with a 190.050, third would be held by the University of Rhode Island notching a 187.150, BGSU would follow with a 184.300, and finishing last was Bridgeport University with 174.875. The Falcons were lead by junior Jillian Stranges on beam, and sophomore Jacquelyn Bernhardt on vault and floor.
The Orange and Brown would change their pace as they began the meet on the beam. They would start off strong as Stranges (9.400) balanced her way to a fourth place finish. Next they headed to the floor where Bernhardt would keep the pace finishing seventh with a 9.600. They would then head to the teams strongest event, the vault where Bernhardt would again lead the way finishing tenth with a mark of 9.450. The bars would again haunt the Falcons as they would see five out of six girls fall.
"We are just not hitting." Said head Coach Dan Connelly. "We could have very well won, but we are beating ourselves."
While the Falcons seemed to have a rough night, there were still some other standouts for the team. Jessica McArthur would finish 11th on vault (9.425) and lead the team on bars with a 9.150. Jessica Bradley finished 11th on beam as she twilled her way to a 9.300. Allison Swafford would shin on the floor with a 9.550 and a ninth place finish.
The Falcons will try to improve as they head back into Mid American Conference action facing Kent State, Friday March 3 at 7:00 p.m. The meet will take place inside the Memorial Athletic and Convocation Center on the Kent State University campus. These two squads meet back on January 14 in Columbus, Ohio where KSU got the best of BGSU 186.700-189.375.
