BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - Bowling Green moves to 4-0 on the season after defeating the Flyers of Dayton, 6-4. A grand slam by Andrew Foster in the 6th inning put the Falcons ahead for good.
The Falcons trailed for the first time all season after allowing a lone run in the first inning. However, BGSU wasted little time knotting the score at 1-1 in the second inning. Unfortunately, that was the only run the Brown and Orange would get in the second despite having the bases loaded with no outs.
An RBI-single by Junior Josh Dietz in the fourth gave Bowling Green the advantage heading into the home-half of the inning. Dayton responded by scarring the Falcons for three runs and a 4-2 lead after four innings.
The score remained the same until a huge sixth inning for BGSU. Back-to-back singles by Junior Josh Stewart and Senior Tyler Wasserman followed by a walk, set the stage for Foster's heroics. With the bases loaded, the Bowling Green, Ohio native whom had grounded into a double play in his two previous at-bats, changed his fortunes and blasted a no-doubt grand slam over the left-field fence to give Bowling Green the 6-4 lead that proved to be enough.
The Falcons had to go deep into the bullpen with nine different pitchers working the mound in the win. Freshman Chris Gacom picks up the win and Sophomore Nick Cantrell earns his first save of the season by pitching the last one and a third innings.
Stewart went 2-for-3 at the plate with three runs scored. Seniors Dash Yost and Wasserman continued their strong play, each contributing a hit to the victory. Sophomore Garret Kloots entered the game in the sixth and immediately struck out the side, allowing no Flyers to reach base.
Next up for the Falcons is the spring break trip down in Bradenton, Florida. Bowling Green will play eight games over the break. First up will be a match-up against Penn State on Saturday, March 4th at 2:30 p.m.
