The Bowling Green State University men's golf team had their final tune-up for the MAC Championships this weekend, and showed a lot of promise with a fifth-place tie at the First Energy Intercollegiate. The Falcons, who shot an 883 team score, had a season-best 286 in round two action.
Leading the way for the Brown and Orange was senior Heath Ziglar, who shot a three-under par, 213 (71-70-72) for a third-place tie. For the first time in his career he shot three staright rounds (in the same tournament) without going above par.
Trevor Spathelf, who also went sub-par, fired a team-low 69 in the second round. He finished the weekend in a tie for 23rd (225).
Also competing for BGSU were Jace Walker (226, T-29th), Tommy Lopez (228, T-37th) and Dan McIntyre (229, T-39th).
Up next for the Falcons are the 2006 MAC Championships, hosted by Ball State. The three day tournament, which begins on May 4, is being held at the Brickyard in Indianapolis, Indiana.
