BOWLING GREEN, Ohio -
Bowling Green won the weekend series at Buffalo, but dropped game three on Sunday afternoon, 11-8. With the loss, the Falcons fall to 26-24 overall and 11-13 in the MAC.
Junior Josh Stewart continued his recent hot streak by going 3-for-4 from the plate with two RBI and a run scored. Over the last five games, in which BGSU is 4-1, Stewart is batting .609 with five doubles, 12 RBI and a 1.043 slugging percentage.
Freshman Brian Hangbers gave Bowling Green the lead in the first by drawing a bases-loaded walk. A groundball by Sophomore Andrew Foster drove in a second run for the Falcons. Buffalo then matched the Falcons two runs in the home-half of the first.
BGSU regained a two-run lead the following inning with another pair of runs. Stewart connected on an RBI-double to left field to drive home Bowling Green's fourth run. Unfortunately, the Bulls then rattled off eight unanswered runs over the next four innings to take a 10-4 lead heading into the seventh.
The Falcons scrapped back into the game, however, trimming the deficit to just three runs (10-7) after eight innings. Two singles combined with a sacrifice bunt for the Bulls in the bottom of the eighth forced the Falcons to rally from four runs down in the ninth.
The Brown and Orange loaded the bases with just one out before a balk handed Bowling Green their eighth run. With two runners remaining in scoring position, the next two Falcon batters were retired to end the game.
BGSU returns to Warren Steller Field on Tuesday, May 16th for the final home contest of the 2006 season. The Falcons host Xavier for a 3 PM showdown.
