Jamie Roflow won the woman's race in a time of 17:53 for the 5,000-meters, winning her second consecutive Mel-Brodt title. On the men's side it was once again Eddie Kipchoge who led the men and won the race. He won in a collegiate best time of 24:42 for the 8,000-meters.
"We knew Ohio would be tough because they were preseason second," said head coach Cami Wells. "They have a lot of depth and a young team so we didn't know what to expect. We look forward to race against them at All-Ohio."
Wells was very pleased with her top runners.
"They both ran great races. Jamie had someone with her the entire time; a very tough runner from Ohio and it is someone that she has battled with many times," said Wells. "It was a well-fought race and it was nice to see her out on top. Eddie ran a very smart race and stayed in control the first part and then built on his lead the last mile and a half and stayed unchallenged."
On the women's side, senior Kim Settle ran one of the best races of her collegiate career, setting a new personal best of 18:24. She finished third in the Division I race behind Ohio's Carime Reinhart.
"Kim has continued to bring her times down and has done a great job for us," said Wells. "She has continually improved over the last four years and it's nice to see it pay off for her senior year."
The next Falcon across the finish line for the women was freshman Carly Bates who ran a very impressive race. She finished the race in a collegiate personal-best time of 19:06, besting her previous time by more than 15 seconds.
"Carly has worked very hard during practice and the race and she was working on closing the gaps between the second and third runner," said Wells. "She has the mentality to push herself as far as she can and she is really helping us out so far."
Stephanie Hillman was the fourth Falcon to cross the finish line in a time of 19:11. Behind Hillman was Kara Butler, finishing 14th in a time of 19:36.
