Falcons Sweep Three Consecutive Opponents to Take Tournament Crown

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University volleyball team completed a "weekend sweep" Saturday night, winning nine games and dropping zero. BGSU began with a 3-0 sweep over Denver Friday night before adding on two more sweeps Saturday of UC-Riverside and Northern Arizona.
Freshman Corey Domek continued her impressive collegiate start, pacing the Falcons with 15 kills while hitting .458 against UC-Riverside. Domek began the match with two kills to hand BGSU a 2-0 lead. She later finished the match with a kill that gave the Falcons point number thirty in game three. The Naperville, Illinois totaled a team-high 34 kills for the weekend.
Game one was a close battle throughout, but a late surge by BGSU secured the victory. Freshman Milica Askic's kill at 19-19 gave the Brown and Orange a lead they would not relinquish in the 30-26 game one win.
Game two was all about Falcon responses. On numerous occasions the Highlanders cut the socre to a lone point only to watch the Falcons string together consecutive points to regain a comfortable lead. A six-point Falcon run sealed the deal in the 30-21 BGSU win.
Bowling Green never trailed in game three, taking the clinching game 30-24. Juniors Stephanie Swiger and Corrie Mills teamed up for a pair of big blocks in the game.
Redshirt sophomore Kendra Halm saw her first extended action of the sesaon Satruday night against Northern Arizona and did nothing less than steal the show. The MAC All-Freshman team member from a year ago stockpiled 16 kills with just two errors on 28 attempts (.500). Domek chipped in 11 kills also as the Falcons hit a scorching .315 as a team in the sweep over the Lumberjacks.
Bowling Green improved to 4-1 on the season and is scheduled for another three-match tournament, beginning on Friday, Sept. 8th. Cleveland State, Oakland and Indiana State make up the schedule for the weekend.
