
Broncos Break Falcons' Winning Streak

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Falcons went into tonight's match coming off of a 3-1 win over the MAC East Division leader Miami (Oct. 24) and on a eight match winning streak. The Falcons didn't have enough to beat both of the MAC leaders as they fell to MAC West Division leader Western Michigan (24-30, 28-30, 30-27, 19-30). The Falcons weren't able to get their offense going like they have in the last eight matches. The Broncos held the Falcons to a .105 hitting percentage for the match their lowest in the month of October.
The Broncos jumped out from the beginning taking the first two points of the match. They followed that up with a three point run giving them a 6-3 lead. The Falcons answered back with their own three point run to come within two of the Broncos 10-8. However, the Broncos fired back once again with a four point run taking a 14-8 lead over the Falcons. The Falcons didn't give up and put together two more three point runs the first with Elizabeth Simon at the serving line and then second with Maggie Karges at the serving line, which brought the Falcons within two of the Broncos again, 20-18. The Falcons fought hard but a Bronco three point run ended game one, 30-24.
Game two was much closer with neither team taking more than a three point lead. Game two tied up 6-6, Corey Domek terminated play with a kill to give the Falcons their first lead of the night 7-6. The Broncos came back once again stringing together three points to capture the lead 9-8. The game continued to go back and forth until the Falcons put together their own three point run to take an 18-15 lead. The Broncos took a 20-19 lead after a four point run. The rest of game two continued to be a close battle but the Broncos were able to score two points in a row three times giving the Broncos a 28-25 lead over the Falcons. The Falcons fought back but were unable to capture the win losing game two, 30-28.
Down 2-0 the Falcons came out fired up in game three. With game three tied up 5-5 Domek put away another kill to side out and give the Falcons the lead, which they wouldn't relinquish the rest of game three. Three straight kills from Meghan Mohr extended the Falcons lead over the Broncos 10-6. The Falcons put together a four point run giving them a five point lead over the Broncos, 17-12. The Falcons didn't let up as they followed up their four point run with a five point run started by a kill from Kendra Halm. The Falcons took their biggest lead of the night after a Domek kill giving the Falcons a 26-19 lead. The Falcons secured game point of a kill from Halm, 29-24. The Broncos fought off three Falcon game points but a kill from Mohr ended game three, 30-27. The Falcons hit their best in game three with 18 kills hitting a .216 and held the Broncos to a .189.
After losing game three the Broncos took and early lead in game four after a five point run followed by a three point run giving them a six point lead over the Falcons. The Broncos didn't let up put together another four straight points and extending their lead to 15-5 over the Falcons. The Falcons fought back putting together a five point run bringing them within six of the Broncos, 19-13. The Falcons continued to battle but weren't able to put together any points in a row and lost game four, 30-19.
Despite the loss the Falcons had three players in double digits on offense and four in double digits on defense. Mohr led the way on offense terminating a career high 18 kills hitting a .263 and picking up her sixth double-double of the season also recording 12 digs. Domek recorded 18 kills and Halm had 10 kills for the night. Sam Fish ran the offense distributing the ball and collecting 43 assists.
Leading the way for the Falcons on defense once again was Chelsey Meek picking up 21 digs, followed by Simon with 14 digs and Madeline Means with 13 digs.
The Falcons return to Anderson Arena to wrap up their home portion of their schedule and put their undefeated home court (11-0) to the test in a two game home stand hosting MAC East Division foes, Kent State and #19 Ohio.
