BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - Bowling Green will participate in the Charleston Southern Tournament March 2-4 and will pick-up Spring Break double-header action against St. Bonaventure on March 7 ... this will be the first time the Falcons will compete in the tournament ... they will open tournament play against Brown University on March 2 ... first-pitch will be thrown at 5:00 p.m ... BGSU will face six different opponents over the span of three days.
MARK YOUR CALENDARS
Bowling Green, will match up with six opponents while in South
Carolina ... Friday (3/2) Brown (0-0) will challenge the Falcons at 5:00 p.m. ... BGSU will finish the day against Campbell University (8-6-1) with the first pitch being thrown at 7:00 p.m. ... day two action will include games against the St. Bonaventure University (0-0) (10:00 a.m.) and Providence (0-0) (12:15 p.m.) ... the Orange and Brown will close the tournament with a breakfast match against the University of Hartford (0-0) (10:00 a.m.) and will close with a lunch date against host Charleston Southern (6-11) (12:15 p.m.) ... the Falcons will be given two full days of rest and will then play their first mid-week DH ... BGSU will finalize their fun in the sun with two against the St. Bonaventure on Mar. 7.

ABOUT THE FALCONS
Last week, the Falcons defended their title as the Panera Bread Challenge Champions posting a 4-1 record in Chattanooga, Tenn. ... after losing their first game of the season to Eastern Kentucky by one run, 3-2, the Falcons have won four straight ... wins include Maine (2-0), St. Francis (8-0, 5 innings), Akron (6-4), and Miami (8-3) ... five of the nine BGSU starters have already hit a homerun (Baca, Vallas, DeLong, Sontag and Wiemer) ... Bowling Green has not allowed an opponent to score more than four runs in a single game ... they have also left two opponents scoreless (Maine, St. Francis) ... the Falcons are averaging five runs per game and one homer per game.
FALCONS WIN PANERA BREAD CHALLENGE
Entering day three, the Falcons were tied for first place with Chattanooga and Miami with three tournament wins and just one loss ... Chattanooga beat MU, 4-3 in their final game of tournament play ... The Falcons were awarded the crown due to a three-tired tie-breaking system ... BGSU and host Chattanooga, each won four games but did not face each other in head-to-head action making tier one erroneous ... Tier two was also negated because both the Falcons and the Mocs allowed common opponent Miami to score three runs ... Tier three, runs scored, was forced to decide the tournament ... Bowling Green won the tie-breaker as a result of their 26 runs on the weekend. The Mocs scored 17 and finished in second. Miami took third.
SALSBURG PICKS-UP BEST START ... EVER!
The non-conference win over Akron propelled first year head coach Shannon Salsburg to the record books ... she becomes the only coach in program history to post a winning record at the conclusion of her first opening weekend at the helm of the program ... Salsburg's Falcon went 4-1 at the Panera Bread Challenge.
FALCON PITCHING
Palma has All-Star debut
Freshman Sharon Palma made her collegiate debut
memorable as she and the Bowling Green State University Falcons recorded their first no-hitter since April 12, 2004 ... Palma is believed to be the first Falcon freshman to throw a no-hitter in her debut on the mound ... She is just the fifth player in program history to accomplish the feat and only the second to do it in a five-inning game.
Gouge goes the distance
Junior Emily Gouge pitched her twelfth complete career game on Feb. 23 vs. Maine ... against the Black Bears, Gouge sent 11 batters back to the dugout on K's ... she has started two games this season and is 1-0.
Wiemer picking up where she left off
Sophomore Hayley Wiemer has retired nine batters in three games with a season high four against Eastern Kentucky ... she is 2-1 overall ... allowed just one hit in four innings and boasted a 1.40 ERA against Akron.
SPECTACULAR SENIORS
Home is where Zirkle is
Senior catcher Ashley Zirkle has found a home on both sides of the plate ... behind the plate she has started all five games for the Falcons at catcher and has 25 putouts on the season ... including a season high 10 against Maine ... she has picked up an additional three assists ... when at the plate, Zirkle is currently batting .545 on eleven at bats ... her six hits have resulted in three runs and three RBI's ... recorded one hit in four of BGSU first five games ... has yet to hit below .500 this season.
Don't touch Baca's bat
Senior outfielder Jeanine Baca currently boasts a .357
batting average and has hits in four of the first five BGSU games ... recorded the first run against Maine en route to a 2-0 victory ... had three hits that game ... connected twice including a double that led to a score in the Falcons 8-0 five inning victory over St. Francis (PA) ... hit a leadoff homerun against the Miami pitching staff in BG's 6-4 win ... responsible for one run in all five games played in Chattanooga, Tenn. ... earned seven hits in first four games of Panera Challenge ... is a perfect 5-5 in stolen bases.
INSIDE THE BATTERS BOX
Brown University (3/2, 5:00 p.m.)
The Brown Bears will open the 2007 season against the Falcons in game one of the Charleston ... game one (Mar. 2, 5:00 p.m.) of the Charleston Southern Tournament will be the first meeting between BGSU and Brown.
Campbell University (3/2. 7:00 p.m.)
The Campbell Camels enter the match with the Falcons holding an 8-6-1 overall record and a .500 record at neutral diamonds (4-4) ... in their most recent tournament, the Elon Invitational, Campbell won two games while dropping an additional three ... the squad is 1-0 vs. MAC opponents after handing Ohio University a 6-1 loss in Burlington, North Carolina on Feb. 24 ... prior to matching-up with the Providence College Friars in the first game of the Charleston Southern Tournament, CU will play a double-header with South Carolina in Buies Creek on Wednesday, Feb. 28 ... this will be the second meeting between the schools ... BGSU has the 1-0 advantage after beating the Camels 4-2 at the Worth Classic in Tampa, Fla. last season.
St. Bonaventure (3/3, 10:00 a.m.)
The St. Bonaventure Bonnies have yet to see action in the 2007 season ... SBU will have played just one scheduled game (Hartford, Mar. 2) before playing the Falcons on Mar. 3 ... the two squads will also play a mid-week double-header on Wednesday, March 7 ... first pitch of the Wednesday double-header will be thrown at high noon ... game three (Mar. 3, 10:00 a.m.) of the Charleston Southern Tournament will be the first meeting between BGSU and St. Bonaventure.
Providence College (3/3, 12:15 p.m.)
The Friars of Providence College, like many of BGSU's opponents, open their 2007 campaign in Charleston, South Carolina ... before meeting the Falcons on Mar. 3, the Friars will battle common opponents Campbell and Hartford on Mar. 2 ... the Friars were selected to finish seventh in the Big East pre-season poll ... (Mar. 3, 12:15 p.m.) of the Charleston Southern Tournament will be the first meeting between BGSU and Providence.
Hartford (3/4, 10:00 p.m.)
The University of Hartford Hawks will use the Charleston Southern Tournament knock the dust off their bats and work through the 2007 schedule ... Hartford is scheduled to see St. Bonaventure (Mar. 2), Providence (Mar. 2), Brown (Mar. 3), and Campbell (Mar. 3) before meeting the Falcons ... game five (Mar. 4, 10:00 a.m.) of the Charleston Southern Tournament will be the first meeting between BGSU and Hartford.
Charleston Southern (3/4, 12:15 p.m.)
Host Charleston Southern began their season February 9 and have accumulated a 6-11 overall record since ... to date, the Lady Bucs are 5-6 in tournament play after participating in two (at Georgia Southern and UNC-Wilmington)... most recently, CSU claimed the Navy Bracket Championship at the Seahawk Classic hosted by UNC-Wilmington ... the Lady Bucs were an even 3-3 in Wilmington, N.C. ... CSU is currently on the positive side of a three game win streak after dropping five straight ... CSU and Bowling Green will share the diamond in game six of the tournament ... it will be the first meeting for the universities.
