BGSU Women's Cross Country Team Finishes Seventh At The Greater Louisville Classic

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Bowling Green State University men's and women's cross country teams took part in the Greater Louisville Classic Saturday morning at E.P. Tom Sawyer Park in Louisville, Ky. The BGSU women, behind a solid 24th-place finish by freshman Ashley Fischer (Fremont, Ohio) would finish the race seventh-overall (222 points), while the Falcon men, despite an 11th-place finish by sophomore Eddie Kipchoge (Eldoret, Kenya) would finish 28th (782 points) in the event hosted by the Greater Louisville Sports Commission in conjunction with the University of Louisville.
Fischer, who was coming off two top 10 finishes, including a dual meet win over the University of Toledo in her first collegiate race, would run a new collegiate-best time of 18:03.93 to lead all BGSU women. Kipchoge, who rebounded from an injury at the Mel Brodt Invitational two weeks ago, ran a time of 24:16.37 to pace the Falcon men.
The host Cardinals would take the men's race with 58 points, as four U of L runners finished in the top 10. Eastern Kentucky's Jacob Korir took the individual title coming across the line in a time of 23:08.89.
On the women's side the University of Kentucky took the team title with a score of 55, as seven Wildcat runners finished in the top 25. Rend Lake College's Pasca Cheruiyot took individual honors with a time of 17:06.44.
In the women's 5k race, the Falcons had four runners in the top 50 with seven total finishing in the top 100. Sophomore Carly Bates (Palatine, Ill.) would finish 38th with a time of 18:27.17, while junior Kara Butler (Okemos, Mich.) and freshman Barbara Powers (Bowling Green, Ohio) finished 41st and 47th with times of 18:35.12 and 18:38.
Other Falcons finishing in the top 100 were freshman Megan Kelsey (Kettering, Ohio) in the 85th spot (19:16.32) and senior Lyndi Springer (Celina, Ohio), who came across in the 96th position (19:22.09).
On the men's side, Portage, Ohio native Brad Wells would be the second top-finishing Falcon. Wells, who came across the tape in the 195th position, ran a time of 26:45.62. Not far behind wells was freshman Christopher Moody (Davidsonville, Md.), who brought in the 211th spot with a time 26:58.26.
Falcon seniors Kevin Kaighlin (Oregon, Ohio) and Curtis Farnsel (Metamora, Ohio) would then finish 251st and 252nd to round out the men's results.
The two teams will return to action next Saturday, Oct. 5, when they head to Delaware, Ohio for the All-Ohio Championships. The event will kick-off at 2;00 p.m.
