TOLEDO, Ohio (BGSUFalcons.com) - The Bowling Green State University tennis team make quick work of Wright State University Sunday (Jan. 27), winning at every flight en route to a 7-0 win. The non-conference match was held at the Shadow Valley Tennis Club in Toledo.
"We had a pretty dominant effort today," said Falcon head coach Penny Dean, who saw her team improve to 3-0 in dual-match play this season. "We stayed focused in every match and played well."
The Falcons got off to a successful start by winning all three doubles matches to take a 1-0 lead. The top-flight team of freshman Christine Chiricosa and junior Kelsey Jakupcin lost just one game in their win, while sophomore Katia Babina and junior Stefanie Menoff blanked their WSU opponents, 8-0, at the third flight.
The Falcons' second-flight doubles duo of senior co-captains Jenna Nussbaum and Andrea Volle rounded out the sweep with an 8-5 win.
In singles play, none of the six BGSU players was strongly challenged, as the Falcons lost no more than two games in any set. BG singles players dropped a total of just 11 games in the 12 total sets.
Jakupcin dropped just three games in her win over Jessica Lee (6-2, 6-1) at the first flight, while Chiricosta and soph Samantha Kintzel each lost only one total game at the second and third flights, respectively. Both players beat their Raider foes by 6-0, 6-1 scores.
Nussbaum and Volle were winners at flights four and five, respectively, with Nussbaum losing three total games and Volle one. Junior Libby Harrison dropped just two games in her win over Kelly Lybrook at the sixth level.
The Falcons are idle from competition until Feb. 9. On that date, BG will continue a six-match homestand with a 2:00 p.m. match vs. UIC at Shadow Valley.
