BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - Senior Alisha Yee and freshman Vicky Yu each took two first place finishes as the swimming and diving Falcons fell to the Eastern Michigan Eagles 173-125. Also taking a top spot was freshman diver Molly Wood who finished first in the 3-meter dive and second in the 1-meter dive.
The Falcons started the meet off right with a first place finish in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1.47.75. The winning relay consisted of teammates Yee, Meg Richardson, Sarah Burston and Carrie Enright.
The Falcons continued their winning streak with a one-two finish in the 200 yard freestyle. Yu took the top spot with a time of 1:54.01, while Jennifer Beatty was not far behind, coming in at 1:55.76.
Yu was also victorious in the 400 yard individual medley; swimming in at 4:32.49 and just one event earlier she took a second place finish in the 100 yard fly with a time of 57.21.
The 100 yard backstroke followed giving Yee her first individual win with a time of 58.91. Sami Jordan fought hard for the second place finish but fell just short coming in third with a time of 59.16, only eight one-hundredths of a second behind the second place finisher.
Later in the meet Yee and Jordan were able to finish one-two in the 200 yard backstroke; Yee finishing first with a top time of 2:06.88 and Jordan in second with a time of 2:09.10.
The 50 yard sprint was, as always, a tight race. BGSU's Frankie Houck finished fourth, only two one-hundredths of a second behind EMU. Enright came next with a fifth place finish, again, only two one-hundredths of a second behind Houck.
Jennifer Beatty, Andrea Brown, Megan Bomicino and Vicky Yu finished the meet with a second place finish in the 800 yard freestyle relay, only one second short of the first place spot.
Although the Falcons didn't reign victorious, the young team proved to have talent. Notable freshman standouts were Amanda Rom who finished second in the 200 yard breaststroke and third in the 100 yard breaststroke; Beatty who finished second in the 500 yard freestyle; and Bomicino who finished third in her three events, the 1000 yard freestyle, 500 yard freestyle and the 200 yard butterfly.
The Falcons will be back in action again tomorrow, Saturday, November 1, at 1:00 p.m. at Cooper Pool against the Ball State Cardinals.
