Vallas' Big Stick Earns MAC East Player of the Week

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - Senior tri-captain Allison Vallas was named Mid-American Conference East Player of the Week as announced by MAC offices today (April 15). Vallas was garnered MAC East Player of the Week earlier this season and two other times in her career.
Vallas, Perrysburg, Ohio native and Falcons' clean-up hitter, led BG to a 3-1 record for the second straight week. Vallas started the week posting one of the two Falcon hits against #6 Michigan's Jordan Taylor, the second best pitcher in the nation with an ERA of 0.49.
In game two of BG's double-header home opener against Eastern Michigan, Vallas went a perfect three-for-three with a 3.000 slugging percentage, including to homers that soared over the right field fence, a single and four RBIs. She became only the sixth Falcon to record two homers in a single game.
Vallas brought her big stick once again as she went two-for-four with a 1.250 slugging percentage, including a three-run homer and four RBIs against Central Michigan. In the bottom of the eighth Vallas hit a single up the middle to drive in the game-winning run giving the Falcons a 7-6 victory over the Chippewas. For the second straight weekend Vallas was intentionally walked, her third of the season and her career.
On the week Vallas went 6-for-13 with a .462 batting average and a 1.154 slugging percentage including three homers and eight RBIs. Defensively she recorded 37 putouts and two assists with only one error for a .975 fielding percentage.
Vallas currently leads the Falcons in batting average (.351), slugging percentage (.636), hits (27), RBIs (21) and is second in runs scored (16). The Perrysburg native is currently on a two game multiple hit streak, a two game RBI streak and a two game homer streak going into her last week of play at the BGSU softball field.
This is Vallas' fourth career and second MAC East POW honor this season as she was named once as a freshman (April 16, 2005), once as a junior (May 2, 2007) and earlier this season after being named to the War Eagle Classic All-Tournament Team (Mar. 12).
