Last Time Out
In the weather shortened Marshall Invitational, the Bowling Green State University men's golf team finished in a tie for 11th, firing a 587 (287-300). Illinois won the tournament with a 554.
The Falcons were led by sophomore Matt Schneider, who fired a two-over par 144, carding back-to-back 72's. Schneider finished in a tie for 23rd.
Senior Jace Walker opened the tournament with a two-under 69 in the first 18 holes, but finished the event with a 76 to finish in a tie for 28th (145).
Also competing for the Orange and Brown were senior Russell Goodwin (147, T-38th), sophomore John Powers (151, T-67th) and Bryan Mitchell (159, 87th). Senior Trevor Spathelf competed as an individual, which did not allow his scores to count for the team, but he went 72-77 to finish in a tie for 50th
Walker Closes In on Winger
Senior Jace Walker is averaging 72.61 strokes a round this season, tops in the conference according to www.mac-sports.com. Not only does that 72.61 lead all golfers in the MAC, that average is currently the second lowest ever in a season by a Falcon, trailing only current men's head coach Garry Winger, who averaged 72.4 strokes a round in 1994. Winger, who also owns the lowest-ever career average at BGSU with a 75.00 may have to surrender that record, as Walker is nipping on his heals. The St. Thomas, Ontario native has played in 114 rounds, carding 8,538 stroke in his career for a 74.89 career average.
Up Next
Following the trip to Penn State the Falcons will participate at the First Energy Intercollegiate on April 26, before heading to the MAC Championships the following week (May 2-4).
