Dusty Hawk Caps Successful Start To Summer With All-Star Selection

(BGSUFalcons.com) - Bowling Green State University junior right-handed pitcher Dusty Hawk has capped what has been a very successful start to the summer, as the Falcon senior to be was named an all-star this week by the Tar Heel Summer Baseball League in North Carolina. With his selection, the Tipp City, Ohio native joins teammates Kyle Atkinson (Southwest Ohio Collegiate League), Chris Gacom (Central Illinois Colleigate League), Ryan Schlater (Great Lakes Summer League) and Dennis Vaughn (Central Illinois Colleigate League) who were also named all-stars this week by their respective collegiate summer leagues.
Hawk, who had a 1-0 record and 2.87 ERA in his final 10 appearances of 2008 for the Falcons, currently ranks first in the Tar Heel League in ERA for pitchers with 20 or more innings with an ERA of 0.73.
The 6-foot-3-inch hurler, has been competing for the Tar Heel League's Monroe Channelcats, who currently sit in second-place in the league with a 14-11 record.
On the summer, Hawk has a record of 3-0 in five appearances, where has allowed just two earned runs on 12 hits in 24 and 2/3 innings of duty. He has also recorded 15 strikeouts to just 10 walks, as opponents are hitting a mere .145 against him.
Hawk was joined this week by Gacom and Vaughn who were named all-stars on Monday and Schlater and Aktinson, who were also named all-stars this week in the Great Lakes Summer League and the Southwest Ohio Collegiate League.
Schlater will represent BGSU and the Grand Lake Mariners in the 2008 Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League All-Star Game on Wednesday, July 16 at Western Hills High School in Cincinnati, Ohio. Atkinson will participate in the Southwest Ohio All-Star game which will be Held July 23rd at Foundation Field in Hamilton, Ohio.
