CLEVELAND, Ohio - For the second consecutive week the Bowling Green State University men's golf team has walked away with the top Mid-American Conference honor, as Matt Schneider was named MAC Golfer of the Week, announced by the league office. Schneider shared the honor with Ohio's John Mlynarski.
Schneider, a native of Grand Rapids, Minnesota, captured the individual crown at the John Piper Intercollegiate with a 54-hole score of 214. After opening the tournament with back-to-back 70's, the junior carded a 74 on the final day of competition to help the Falcons finish third in the 13-team field.
Following 54 holes of action, BGSU's Schneider and Ohio's Mlynarski were tied for tournament medalist honors, but on the first playoff hole Schneider recorded a par to Mlynarski's bogey to capture the individual crown.
This is the second time Schneider has been honored by the league office. Last season he earned the same honor after finishing 20th at the Wexford Plantation Intercollegiate with a score of 226.
Schneider and the Falcons will return to action on Sept. 22-23 where they will compete at the Earl Yestingsmeier Intercollegiate, hosted by Ball State.
