CLEVELAND, Ohio (BGSUFalcons.com) - A pair of Bowling Green State University soccer standouts have swept the Mid-American Conference Scholar-Athlete-of-the-Week awards, the league office announced on Thursday (Sept. 25). Men's soccer junior Jacob Lawrence was named the MAC's Male Scholar-Athlete of the Week, while Stephenson earned the conference's Female S-A-O-W honor.
Lawrence, a native of Brandon, Miss., was named to an all-tournament team for the third consecutive weekend, as the Falcons won a second-straight tournament. He scored a goal in each of the team's two weekend games in the Falcons' own BGSU Invitational.
Lawrence's goal in the 81st minute broke a scoreless tie and proved to be the game-winner in Friday's 2-0 victory over IPFW. He also scored the Falcons' lone goal on Sunday, in a 2-1 loss to Saint Francis (Pa.). Lawrence has a three-game scoring streak, with four goals in those three games. Prior to the current streak, Lawrence had scored a career total of two goals in two-plus seasons as a Falcon. His goal against IPFW marked his second game-winning goal in as many games, and the second of his career.

Lawrence currently maintains a 3.90 cumulative grade point average as a psychology major.
Stephenson, a native of Lexington, Ohio, had a goal and an assist as the Falcons posted two more shutout wins. She assisted on the game-winning goal in Friday's 4-0 victory over Detroit, then scored her second goal of the year in Sunday's 2-0 triumph at Xavier.
Stephenson now has a career-best three-game scoring streak, with two goals and an assist in that time. In those three games, she has matched her point total for all of last year.
Stephenson, a defender, also has helped the Falcons post four consecutive shutouts to end the non-conference portion of the schedule. BGSU has not allowed a goal in a span of 412:46, the second-longest such streak in program history.
The Falcons are 5-2-2, the best record through nine games in school history. Stephenson, as mentioned, has five points on the year, having matched her total for all of last season. After scoring one goal in her first 27 collegiate games, she has two goals in her last three matches. The Falcons are currently riding a six-game unbeaten streak, and have outscored opponents, 21-1, during that time.
Stephenson maintains a perfect 4.00 cumulative GPA as a finance major.
The MAC Scholar Athlete of the Week honor is presented to a MAC male and female student-athlete who has a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better and performs well during that week's competition. The winners are selected by a group of the conference's faculty athletic representatives.
The Falcon women begin the MAC schedule this weekend, with a Friday game at Northern Illinois and a Sunday contest at Western Michigan. The BG men play one weekend match, heading to Marshall for a Saturday game.
