On a bright, sunny day in Kettering, Ohio, the Bowling Green State University women's golf team put it all together to earn the team's best round since the opening round of the season. Their score of 318 propelled the Falcons to match their season-best finish by placing second at the University of Dayton Fall Invitational.
Over 36 holes and two days at the par-70, 6,836-yard NCR Country Club North Course, Bowling Green carded a score of 645. That 36-hole total is a season-best for the Orange and Brown. Their score matched that of Detroit Mercy, who shared second place with the Falcons. Bowling Green also finished second at the Youngstown State Invitational.
The University of Cincinnati (624) won the team championship. The University of Dayton, Evansville, and Ohio University all shared fourth place with a score of 652.
Individually, junior Lauren Glew tied her best 36-hole score of the season and earned her first top-ten finish as she carded 180 (81-79) for the two days. The score tied for ninth place and was just two shots shy of the top five.
Senior Hannah Lambert earned her best round of the season to date with a first-round 80 and followed it today with an 81. Her total of 161 is also her best 36-hole score of the year, and her tie for 13th place is her second top-15 finish in the season's six tourneys.
Freshman Susannah Grunden earned her fourth top-20 finish by placing in a tie for 18th. Her total of 162 (82-80) increases her season per-round average to 78.00; however, that average is still well ahead of the school record of 78.54.
In just her second tournament of the season, sophomore Paula DiFrancesco had perhaps the individual highlight of the tournament for Bowling Green. DiFrancesco holed the tournament's only eagle by chipping in her second shot on the par-four, 458-yard 18th hole. Her 36-hole score of 163 (84-79) is the best of her two-year Falcon career. Her 20th-place finish is tied for the second-best of her career; she placed ninth in a spring tournament last season.
Senior Megan Gormley joined the festivities by also posting her best 36-hole score of the season to date, with a total of 165 (85-80). Her second-round score of 80 is her best round since carding back-to-back 79s to start the season.
Kate Moore of Cincinnati defeated Megan Weaver of Ohio University in a playoff to take individual medalist honors.
Bowling Green will conclude the fall portion of their schedule next Sunday and Monday, October 25th and 26th, at the All-Ohio Invitational in Columbus, Ohio. They will resume play in the spring on March 5th, 2010 at the Rio Verde Invitational in Arizona.
