BGSU Co-Captains Named to ESPN The Magazine Acad. All-District Team

Two Bowling Green State University student-athletes have been named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District IV University Division Men's Soccer Team, it was announced Friday night (Oct. 30). Senior co-captains Jacob Lawrence and Hunter Van Houten each earned first-team honors.
Lawrence earned the honor for the second time in his BGSU career, having also been named to the first team in 2008. Van Houten earns academic all-district accolades for the first time.
Lawrence, a native of Brandon, Miss. (St. Joseph), currently ranks second on the Falcons in both goals (four) and points (10). Lawrence began the year at a defender spot, but has seen extended time at forward as of late. He scored a pair of goals, including the game-winning penalty kick late in the second half, in a 4-3 win at Buffalo, and also had a two-goal game in the Falcons' 2-2 tie vs. Hartwick. Lawrence has played in 13 matches this season, missing a pair of contests due to injury.
Lawrence has played in 63 career games, starting 62. He has 25 career points on 10 goals and five assists. Three of his goals have been match winners.
Van Houten, who hails from Valparaiso, Ind. (Valparaiso HS), also has missed two games due to injury this year. He, like Lawrence has started 13 matches this fall. Van Houten has a team-leading four assists this fall, including a pair in the Buffalo match. He also had assists vs. Dayton and Hartwick.
The ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District University Division Team is made up of student-athletes from Division I schools in the states of Alabama, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio and Tennessee. To be nominated, a student-athlete must hold at least sophomore status, be a starter or key reserve, and carrry a cumulative GPA of 3.30 or higher. Team members are selected by a vote of members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) within the district.
The Falcons of head coach Eric Nichols close the regular season with three-straight games at home, beginning with Saturday's (Oct. 31) key Mid-American Conference match vs. Northern Illinois University. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. at Cochrane Field.
